ATHENS: Chorus of Nafpaktos in Concert at the Copernicus Center

The Athens Committee of Chicago Sister Cities International presents the Chorus of Nafpaktos Greece in concert at the Copernicus Center, with proceeds benefiting Theodoros Papagiannis’s “Runners” sculpture.  The “Runners” move through time, emerging from antiquity to meet the present, and represents a lasting message of friendship.  This donation from the CSCI Athens Committee to the City of Chicago’s Public Art Collection will be installed at O’Hare International Airport.

The Chorus of Nafpaktos was established in 1987 and consists of 60 singers under the musical direction of the distinguished Bulgarian maestro Todor Kabakchief. The choir has been a front runner in the European cultural scene whose  repertoire includes church music from the Renaissance, Baroque and Classical periods, as well as works by contemporary Greek composers like Mikis Theodorakis, Manos Hatzidakis, Manos Loizos and others.
