The week of June 2-6 has been designated as “Celebrate Birmingham: Big City in the Heart of England” week as the Chicago plays host to a delegation of government officials and businesses from Britain’s second largest city.
Throughout the course of the week-long celebration, Chicago will “Celebrate Birmingham” with a series of seminars and a full day (Thursday, June 5) dedicated to Chicago’s Sister City of Birmingham, England during the Chicago Sister Cities International Festival on Daley Plaza, also held June 2-6.
The two-part seminar will focus on Birmingham’s efforts to reduce carbon emissions and the British Midland’s Bridge 2 Growth business seminar will brief businesses on a unique private-public partnership designed to help US companies enter the UK market.
The two events kick off with the climate change seminar, which is titled: Climate Change Can Grow Your Business. This session begins at 8:00am on June 4 and is being held at the Chicago Intercontinental Hotel. Cities around the world are developing strategies to reduce their carbon footprints and the seminar focuses on both Birmingham’s and Chicago’s efforts to decrease carbon emissions. The next seminar, titled Bridge 2 Growth, begins at 2:30pm on June 4, also at the Intercontinental Hotel. Bridge2Growth is a UK government sponsored program designed to facilitate and complete the UK company start up process for small and medium North American companies with European expansion plans. This free of charge service helps companies expanding into Europe via the British Midlands reduce some of their market entry costs and reduce risk of international expansion.
