In conjunction with the Consulate General of Switzerland in Chicago, the Lucerne, China and Hamburg committees will co-present a reception and screening of the film “Bird’s Nest – Herzog & De Meuron in China” in the Claudia Cassidy Theater at the Chicago Cultural Center on April 9. “Bird’s Nest – Herzog & De Meuron in China” describes the journey of how the grand National Stadium for the Olympic Summer Games in Beijing came into being. The stadium was built by the Swiss architects Jacques Herzog and Pierre de Meuron.A pre-screening reception will be held at 5:30 p..m. in the GAR Rotunda, just outside the theater.
Rolf Achilles, art historian, The School of the Art Institute, will introduce Herzog & De Meuron and their work around the globe. Following the screening, Rolf Achilles and Nancy Hamilton, Principal of ARUP Chicago and collaborating engineer at the Bird’s Nest, will be available for a discussion and Q & A, along with members of the organizing Sister Cities committees.
