Following a record-breaking run on Broadway and in London’s West End, Rock ‘n’ Roll makes its way to Chicago. Rock ‘n’ Roll follows the lives of Jan, a Czech PhD student who loves rock music, Max, an English professor with an unabashed passion for Communism, and Esme, a flower child. Taking place in Cambridge and in Prague, Stoppard highlights the significance of rock music in the emergence of the democratic movement in Czechoslovakia, beginning with the Prague Spring of 1968 and ending after the Velvet Revolution of 1989.
