World Art Chicago 2010 Connects More Than 1,000 Students Throughout the World
Artwork on display in the Daley Center through May 21 and available online at www.worldartchicago.com
CHICAGO, May, 2010 – The City of Chicago, Chicago Sister Cities International and Chicago Public Schools have again teamed up for this year’s World Art Chicago program, which offers elementary and high school children from Chicago and around the world the opportunity to create, exchange and exhibit artwork together.
The theme for 2010, One People, One Earth – One Home, focuses on the environment, encouraging students to create art reflecting why it’s important for people to care for the earth and each other. Teachers and students are asked to address at least one of the following categories: air, water, land, nature or people.
The international, arts-based exchanges between students are a key element in World Art Chicago. With the help of Chicago Sister Cities International, students and teachers in Chicago can connect with others abroad to share ideas, view one another’s artwork and collaborate on pieces.
The World Art Chicago 2010 exhibit is now displayed in the East Lobby of the Daley Center at 50 West Washington Street until May 21.
A special viewing of the exhibition will be held for the participating teachers and students on Wednesday, May 19 in the Daley Center, from 4:30 – 5:30 p.m., followed by a private reception at the Chicago Cultural Center, Preston Bradley Hall, from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. To request media access to this exclusive exhibition and reception, please contact Natalie Campbell at Natalie.Campbell@cityofchicago.org or (312) 744-2172.
Artwork is also available to view online at www.worldartchicago.org, and art submissions will be accepted to the online gallery until June 30, 2010. Interested schools should complete the registration form on the website in order to receive instructions for uploading artwork to the website.
