Overview: The Greater Amman Municipality runs an annual summer camp for school children living in Amman, and has invited Chicago children to participate for the past three years. The goals are to teach children about the traditions of Jordan through different cultural visits, language classes, games and handicraft lessons. The students will have the opportunity to visit historical sites in Amman and Petra, swim in the Dead Sea, and will camp overnight at Wadi Rum. Please see attached schedule from last year’s camp.

Costs Per Person:
The City of Amman will cover all food, housing, and transportation costs in Jordan. Airfare for students and chaperones is not included.
1. Airfare: $1500-2000
2. Passports: $85 – under 16
3. Passports: $100 – over 16
4. Visa: $14
5. Cell Phones: $45 (one-week rental with international SIM card)
6. Meals and Transportation: Provided by the Greater Amman Municipality
Total per person: $1630-$2130 per person (depending on dates)
What to bring:
1- Flashlight
2- Comfortable shoes – you will walk a lot in different terrains (Desert, mountains)
3- Swimming suit – you will visit the Dead Sea & for the swimming pool
4- Pocket money – for shopping
5- Towels and personal things
6- Warm cloths – sometimes it’s cold at night
7- Back pack – to bring overnight clothes when you spend a night in Wadi Rum
Please note that there is 24 hour medical attention available. There is a clinic 2 minutes from the site, and the camp will be on call 24 hrs with the Jordanian Civil Defense. There is a hospital nearby, and camp staff is certified in giving first aid. Please specify if your child has any medical conditions, and if they are taking any prescription medicine (please bring it with them).
