A group of five students and a teacher from Noble Street College Prep traveled to Moscow to attend the Russian Language Summer School from July 5-28, 2010. This language immersion opportunity was made possible by the Moscow Committee of Chicago Sister Cities International and Mayor’s Office of Special Events.
During their three-week stay in Moscow, the students were immersed in Russian language courses and cultural activities. Students were able to broaden their global perspectives through interactions with their classmates who hailed from 37 countries. Lisette, one of the Chicago participants, said that the experience had helped her gain a better perspective of the world and made her realize that we are more alike than we think. A typical day included three hours of Russian language classes followed by cultural activities ranging from sports to Russian festivals. On the weekends, they took excursions around Moscow and its surrounding towns.
